Meet Lisa Yee of LisaFit

I started teaching jazzercise in the 80’s and have been in the health and fitness industry ever since. I competed in fitness in the 90’s and worked for a supplement store. I always loved exercising because I felt strong and empowered. It was exactly what I wanted to share with other people. While my children were young, I got certified in personal training, corrective exercise, group exercise, kick boxing and yoga. I opened my studio ten years ago focusing on personal training. Recently changed the direction of my business into wellness and became certified in life coaching with emphasis on health coaching.
NOT AT ALL – the constant trends in the world of health, fitness, wellness – are never-ending. There are always super cool fitness boutiques opening up that offer so many neat workouts and accessibility. Then there are the apps and online support that make it quite challenging to keep people coming into the studio. Lastly – we are in a pandemic and people aren’t leaving their homes. I have had to move to virtual which has been working but is very limited. It is hard to really see what a person is doing or to feel the energy in their space.
I train and coach the entire person. My sessions include a discussion of what actions are being taken to meet their goals, how to maintain a positive belief and keep moving forwards. While clients talk, there is movement either on the spin bike, stretching, foam rolling or an easy yoga flow. The need to help people live with realistic goal setting and honest accountability was more important than getting a six pack or looking good during the summer. Also – I found many people tolerated living with pain and that was not acceptable in my book. I focus on individual people, their mind and body and cater to specifics of what each person needs. My job is truly personalized and private.
In a day where most people hide behind screens – personalization is a must. Most popular fitness boutiques work on maxing out the classes and people become a number. Some will succeed under that model, most will not. A gym relies on individuals to be self motivated but as we all know, rarely are people motivated to exercise.
I offer continuous accountability and am in constant communication with all my clients.
Success has many facets. It is the impact that a business has on its community. It is the ability to thrive and evolve under many challenges. It is the financial comfort and safety.
